…A character who understands mental illness and the value of rehabilitation?
In Naruto?
Welcome to Konoha, Dr. Uzumaki!
…oh wait never mind. This is the village that drove Kakashi’s father to suicide after taunting and alienating him for the crime of valuing human lives over mission objectives, This is the village that orchestrates genocide and demonizes victims for having the gall to feel betrayed by their hometown. This is the village that has ninja schools, training grounds, battle stadiums and weapons shops but no orphanages or counseling clinics. This is the village that has council members and a village supreme with lifetime seats but no public elections, term limits, or formal judiciary bodies, This is the village that enlists child soldiers into kill camps before they hit double digits and calls it being a hero.
Team Taka did well to stay far away from Konoho’s little den of horrors. No wonder Sasuke left as soon as he could. Karin’s informed attitude would have her laughed out of Konoha, where they seem to prefer the “shut the fuck up and do what we say…or else” approach. They don’t like acknowledging yucky shit that makes them look bad.
The Narutoverse is shockingly terrible with mental health matters though…I mean, Juugo looked at Orochimaru’s basement full of kidnapped human experimentation victims and thought “maybe I can get some help here, because I’ve searched and I can’t find it anywhere else.”
